About me
Hi there! I’m Erin. I live in Southeast Ohio with my husband and two cats, Emma and Oliver. I spend my free time on my couch, knitting and crocheting while watching Netflix, playing D&D with my close friends, or at my local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym learning how to defend myself and having a lot of fun doing it.
I love working as a therapist because I’ve been there. I’m a neurodivergent trauma survivor who knows that it is very possible to fight your way out of the pits of despair towards a life that is worth living. The upside about all of this is that I learned a ton about the kind of work it takes to get out. Your fight will look differently than mine but I believe you have the strength and courage to make your way through, too.
I work best with people who are so sick of being unhappy that they’re willing to make some changes in their lives. I’m not the “blank slate,” “smile-and-nod” kind of therapist. I’m not afraid to delve into the messy, uncomfortable stuff with you, to call you on your BS, and to laugh and celebrate with you.
I am independently licensed in the state of Ohio, which means I am able to independently assess, diagnose, and treat emotional and mental health problems. I have been providing mental health services in a variety of contexts since 2016. I received my Masters Degree in Social Work from Ohio University during which I was trained as a therapist for two years in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. Since graduating, I have worked in a residential substance abuse center for teenagers, a college counseling center, at a community mental health clinic, in suicide prevention work, and as a crisis counselor.
I have received extensive post-graduate training in mental health assessment and treatment from The Ohio State University, Yale University, and the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have received training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is the primary modality I utilize.
I practice evidence-based therapies that have been shown in research to be effective in treating mental health symptoms, but I don’t practice a one-size-fits-all treatment. Every individual who works with me has a very different life and very different struggles and my first priority is to get to know and understand you as a person. Even if you’ve been given a mental health diagnosis, that is only one piece of the puzzle, not your whole story. I work to help you in a way that makes the most sense for your unique set of circumstances and needs.
I hold certifications in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, as well as Anti-Oppression Informed Practice and am committed to taking into consideration systematic issues which may be impacting you as well as multicultural concerns important to you.
I'd love to meet with you and work together to help you get your life back.
